A First look At Iris West’s Flash Suit

Here is Iris West-Allen, the fastest woman on earth. In “Run, Iris, Run,” the 13th episode of The Flash, a metahuman is set to transfer Barry Allen’s super speed to his wife, Iris.

The CW released a synopsis for this episode and a photo of Iris in her superhero costume which she is set to don and will protect Central City:

“Run, Iris, Run”— IRIS SUITS UP — Team Flash confronts a new bus meta, Matthew AKA Melting Pot (guest star Leonardo Nam), with the ability to swap people’s DNA. During a battle with Team Flash, Harold transfers Barry’s (Grant Gustin) super speed to Iris (Candice Patton). Now, with a new threat unleashed on Central City, Barry must act as the team leader while Iris takes on the mantle of superhero speedster to defeat their new foe. Harry Jierjian directed the episode written by Eric Wallace (#416). Original airdate 3/13/2018.

It is not clear if Iris will go by ‘The Flash’ because she does not have an official superhero name or identity. In spite of the unique color scheme, the costume seems to have a lot in common with Jesse Quick’s outfit.

The swap will play into Barry and Iris’ marital problems. When he had returned from the Speed Force, Barry struggled to see eye-to-eye with Iris. The upcoming episode will play into this theme.

While this is the first for The CW series, Iris has suited up in the comic books before. In Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato’s The Flash, Iris wore a very special Speed Force suit, and this enabled her to travel at super speed. Candice Patton was vocal about her desire to wear the suit:

“I know about the Speed Force suit. I want it, I want it, I want it! Geoff Johns, I want it… I sent him photos, like, ‘You know about this happening.’ So he’s aware that I’m aware. I’m hoping eventually we’ll see that.”

The Flash will air on Tuesdays at 8 pm ET/PT on The CW and stars Grant Gustin, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Panabaker, Candice Patton, Jesse L. Martin, and Tom Cavanagh.
