Get ready to welcome The Clown Prince of Crime who is coming to the TV town!
The viewers of Gotham have held on to the theory about Jerome (Cameron Monaghan) being the younger version of Batman’s main enemy, The Joker. But, on various occasion, the cast and crew of Gotham rejected the idea of Jerome being Joker. Earlier in October, Executive Producer Bryan Wynbrandt had stated that Jerome is the show’s “homage” to the iconic Joker, and the character is just building the foundation for the evil Joker to appear later.
Some felt that this hinted at Joker’s arrival in Bruce Wayne’s life after the show’s completion, however, now it seems to be different. During a Discussing Film podcast this week, David Mazouz, star of Gotham, acknowledged that Jerome is certainly not the Joker, but, he clarified that the real Joker would appear soon, and Jerome’s saga is crucial for the Joker to arrive.
“He’s not the Joker, that’s all I’m saying,” Mazouz began. “He’s definitely the inspiration for the Joker and the way that the Joker comes into the show is one of the most brilliant things Gotham has ever done.”
This clears why Jerome has done things such as hurling Joker playing cards and demanding to smear someone’s face with a smile. The character is simply setting things up for deadlier incidents to follow.
After Mazouz’s interview appeared online, Monaghan further substantiated the story. He posted a tweet which has since been deleted, wherein he responded to Mazouz’ remarks by saying:
“I can confirm. What we’ve cooked up and discussed is something not to be missed. It’s a twist on familiar themes, both new and old echoes of the mythos. Something entirely new, but we believe true to the spirit of the show as well as the comics. Proud I got to be a part of it.”
Although we don’t have a clue about when and how the Joker will appear and take over Jerome as the foulest character on Gotham, but, one thing is certain that his arrival is certain to make a lot of people squirm.
Gotham will be back on FOX with fresh episodes in the upcoming spring.
