Writer and director of Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn had recently spoken out on Disney’s purchase of 21st Century Fox.
This deal had been confirmed today and will bring the X-Men and Fantastic Four into the MCU.
“While there are many aspects to Disney’s acquisition of 21st Century Fox’s assets, I am personally incredibly happy about it, for obvious reason,” Gunn wrote on Twitter. “Welcome home, old friends.”
Gunn had followed his tweet with a picture of Doop, who belongs to X-Statix.
“Just saw this guy pulling up next to my office,” Gunn had written.
Judd Apatow then commented saying, “The studio will no longer be owned by the Murdoch’s who are toxic to our country and government because they are part of a propaganda arm which has no interest in anything but making them richer.”
Gunn had agreed and then showed interest in Silver Surfer, whose rights have been controlled by Fox for quite a long time.
“I was thinking more about, like, you know, the Silver Surfer, but this is a valid point as well,” Gunn said.
He has said that he and Kevin Feige are now discussing the iteration of Marvel’s cosmic characters. The filmmaker had revealed that he is now carefully shepherding Marvel’s cosmic universe future.
The Disney/Fox deal means that Gunn may utilize the cosmic characters like Silver Surfer, Annihilus, and Phoenix who had served as a highlight of Marvel Comics’ Annihilation event.
Gunn is returning to script and direct Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
