Now that there is a merger deal in process between Disney and Fox, Hugh Jackman’s name has been doing rounds once again as he is speculated to once again become Wolverine and team up with Captain America in Avengers 4. It is but just one of the many major implications of the deal on the future Marvel Cinematic Universe, without even bothering about the impact on the entertainment industry overall.
Hugh Jackman gave up playing Wolverine after Logan last year, however, this merger might entice him to come out of retirement for one last time. Various news outlets such as Ain’t it Cool News are reporting that Jackman is willing to make a return. As far as the question about why Jackman would comeback as Wolverine in Avengers, he had earlier remarked that the only thing that can make him return to play the role is The Avengers. Hugh Jackman was quoted as saying “The Avengers would prove too much to turn down.”
It doesn’t mean that his comeback is imminent, but, Fox hasn’t yet found a replacement for him and Avengers 4 is in the works. A brief cameo at least wouldn’t be impossible. Jackman had earlier said that if he is shown a script featuring The Avengers, Captain America, and Iron-Man, he would seriously contemplate returning as Wolverine. He said.
“Because I always love the idea of him (Wolverine) within that dynamic, with the Hulk obviously, with Iron Man but there are a lot of smarter people with MBAs who can’t figure that out (laughter). You never know. At the moment, honestly, if I really did have them there, I probably wouldn’t have said this is the last.”
As on date, it is entirely speculation, and neither Disney nor Fox has confirmed about it, but, it is fun to imagine this. As mentioned earlier, a cameo won’t be that difficult and might be a sort of ‘X-Men are home’ statement for MCU, which will lead to bigger participation from them in next phase of MCU. Although it has been disclosed that various little known Marvel characters will feature on the big screen in MCU Phase 4, it is likely to also display a range of popular characters as well.
Therefore, once the formalities of the deal are over, the true impact will be seen. This might be the golden period for Disney and MCU with a number of crossovers which were earlier not possible. Marvel Studio’s chief Kevin Feige has already stated that he has plans in place for X-Men. Therefore, it is all very promising.
