Fans of the Batman Franchise are confused about Ben Affleck’s involvement in The Batman as Reeves is directing a trilogy, with two subsequent installments which will arrive two or three years apart from each other. Considering the actor’s age, that’s a long commitment to be a part of. Still, it’s not impossible or unwelcome, as Affleck is one awesome Dark Knight.

Although there is still some uncertainty regarding his involvement in the franchise, a source close to Warner Bros. claims there is absolutely nothing to worry about, and that the actor is definitely on board for all three films in the trilogy.

“Yeah, he [Affleck] is staying on as the Batman. There were contract issues, but everything’s sorted now. He’ll do Reeves’ trilogy which sets up Batman Beyond, which will be the next phase of the DC film universe.”

Such statements should not be taken too seriously anyway, but if this is true, it’s hugely exciting. So far only Bruce Wayne has taken up the role of the Caped Crusader in the film franchise, so it would be refreshing to see a new character take the lead.

Terry McGinnis was the main character in the popular animated series Batman Beyond, which ran from 1999-2001. Set in a futuristic version of Gotham, Terry was trained into becoming the second Batman by an elderly Bruce Wayne. Complete with a flying Batmobile and an artificial intelligence hi-tech suit, the former teen juvenile continued the legacy of the Dark Knight while seeking redemption for his past wrongdoings. McGinnis was so popular with fans, that he was quickly introduced into comics and had featured in a lot of solo titles ever since.

WB’s has been playing with the idea of bringing the popular character to the big screen for years, with it almost happening in the time between Batman & Robin and Batman Begins. But like many other projects, it simply never came to pass.

It will be interesting to see how The Batman and its possible sequels will happen since Batman Beyond takes place fifty years into the future.  WB should probably start off by introducing Terry’s parents first into their current Batman films in order to pave the way for the Terry’s Batman storyline.
