The Thor actor, Chris Hemsworth now seems to feel that he is done with playing this iconic role. Hemsworth had made his name in Hollywood by playing Thor in Kenneth Branagh’s Thor, and he then reprised this role in solo adventures and The Avengers string of movies. The actor had put in serious gym time to bulk up to play this character, and with each movie, his talent for comedy came out more.
While this actor had mixed success outside of Marvel, his fortunes are now turning around. Blackhat and In The Heart Of The Sea had proven to be box-office disappointments, and Ghostbusters was not the success that Sony had anticipated but Hemsworth’s role as the secretary, Kevin had earned him a lot of positive reviews. His recent movie, 12 Strong had performed very well, and there is talk that the fake Dundee trailer in which he starred with Danny McBride may become a real movie.
The actor’s contract with Marvel will come to an end with The Avengers 4. He had confirmed to Australian Breakfast show Sunrise that he is now ready to move on from this character:
“My contract’s coming to an end; we’ve just finished the last two Avengers. Who knows what the future holds.”
Hemsworth then clarified that although he feels that his time as Thor is done, nothing has been set in stone:
“We felt like we reinvented the last one in a big way. It felt refreshed and re-energized. We might have a conversation if there’s another great script that comes along. But at the moment that’s it.”
Hemsworth’s future with this character may depend a lot on how The Avengers 4 unfold for his character. Kevin Feige has mentioned how this current version of MCU will soon come to an end and this may pave the way for a whole new team of heroes. Whether there is a role for the God of Thunder in Marvel’s next phase, or if the actor is interested in reprising this role will not be known for quite a while.
As of now, our favorite actor seems to be keen on taking a break from his acting career. After his Thor breakthrough, the actor starred in many blockbusters and so, after he finishes The Avengers 4, he does want to take time out and focus on his family.
When it comes to his future movies, he is in doubt on his involvement with the next Star Trek film. Now that Tarantino is onboard, the plans might have changed. Hemsworth has expressed an interest in playing agent 007, James Bond as well.
