D.B. Weiss and David Benioff are traveling from Winterfell to a galaxy far, far away. It had been was announced that Benioff and Weiss, creators of Game of Thrones will be writing and producing the new New Star Wars movies.
The films will be separate from the Skywalker saga and the trilogy which is being developed by Rian Johnson. Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm had said:
“David and Dan are some of the best storytellers working today. Their command of complex characters, depth of story and richness of mythology will break new ground and boldly push Star Wars in ways I find incredibly exciting.”
About the Star Wars film, they said this in a statement:
“In the summer of 1977 we traveled to a galaxy far, far away, and we’ve been dreaming of it ever since. We are honored by the opportunity, a little terrified by the responsibility, and so excited to get started as soon as the final season of Game of Thrones is complete.”
The release dates have not been set yet. This is the second series of Star Wars films to have been announced. A few weeks before The Last Jedi had released, Kathleen Kennedy had announced that Rian Johnson would embark on a journey to create a new trilogy. This would explore a few new characters and planets that are yet to be introduced to the fans.
The news comes after it had been announced that J.J. Abrams will finish the Force Awakens trilogy with Star Wars 9. The Skywalker saga has stretched over 9 movies.
There are lots of Star Wars spin-offs that are being planned for the next few years. Solo: A Star Wars Story will release next and its first trailer had debuted yesterday. It had been reported that an Obi-Wan film was in the line but no announcement has been made since.
Solo will release in May, and Star Wars 9 will hit theatres in December of 2019.
