Black Panther will release on February 16th. Octavia Spencer has now promised to buy out a movie theater for an underserved community in Mississippi to show the superhero adventure to children who would not get a chance to see it on the silver screen. Black Panther is the first Marvel Studios movie which will feature a black lead character. Spencer has said that her mother would not have been able to afford to take her to the movies.
Spencer had let her followers know that she would do this and had said that she would keep her followers updated:
“I will be in MS when this movie opens. I think I will buy out a theatre in an underserved community there to ensure that all our brown children can see themselves as a superhero. I will let you know where and when Mississippi. Stay tuned.”
The post gained more than 11 thousand likes. This is not the first time that Spencer bought out a movie theater. In 2017 and in honor of Martin Luther King Day, she bought out a screening of the movie Hidden Figures in Baldwin Park.
She had sais, “If you know a family in need that would like to see our movie but can’t afford it have them come.”
In other Black Panther news, Ellen DeGeneres had bought out a screening of this movie for the Harlem Boys and Girls Club. Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman had appeared on the show with the man who started #BlackPantherChallenge. Frederick Joseph has raised more than $42,000.
Black Panther is now breaking pre-sale ticket records. With the movie, Kendrick Lamar’s soundtrack will release next Friday.
