You might not need to wait much longer for the upcoming Star Wars trailer now. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney is going to unveil the first trailer of Solo: A Star Wars Story on the coming Sunday during the Super Bowl. The news has been confirmed by their “industry insiders.” Other films which might release trailers during the Super Bowl are Black Panther, A Wrinkle In Time, and Jurassic World: The Fallen Kingdom. Disney refused to respond to a question by THR.
The speculation about a Solo trailer debuting during the Super Bowl has been doing the rounds of fandom for quite a while now since the movie is releasing in cinemas on May (and not December), and also the fact that so far there has been almost no marketing for it despite the release date approaching. The Super Bowl is watched by a large number of people, and that makes it ideal for Disney and Lucasfilm to showcase the new Han Solo film to the maximum number of people in one go.
Solo’s journey has been a very difficult one. The announcement about the movie came in 2015, and Phil Lord/Chris Miller were announced as directors. Nearly two years down the line and after a long spell of filming, the director duo was fired. Ron Howard took over from then soon after and started reshooting a sizeable portion of the movie. Filming wrapped up in October last year.
Solo A Star Wars Story will release in theaters on May 25th, and it features Alden Ehrenreich (Hail Caesar!) as Han Solo, Donald Glover (Atlanta) as Lando Calrissian, Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones), Woody Harrelson (True Detective), Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag), Thandie Newton (Westworld), and Paul Bettany (The Avengers). The Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind) directed film is based on a Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back) and Jon Kasdan (The First Time) script.
