There is no question that Microsoft had been hurting last year with the Xbox One business. It performed well between Forza Motorsport 7, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds and Xbox One X, but it had a few rough parts with the cancellation of Scalebound and Fable Legends and the delay of Crackdown 3.
So it is trying its best to bounce back, and there are now rumors that it may make a few acquisitions to gain the “oomph” back. The company is looking to acquire Electronic Arts.
Polygon had first reported this rumor and indicated that according to one source, the acquisition might happen soon. Valve and PUBG Corp., are names that have come up. The last one seems likely because the companies are getting along well.
SuperDataResearch CEO, Joost van Dreunen had explained:
“Because of where we are in the lifecycle of all these things, I’m expecting to hear Microsoft announce something very, very shortly.”
This company had promised a line-up for 2018 between Crackdown 3 and Sea of Thieves. A key acquisition like EA may mean huge business for this company. The question is, if they buy this company, what will it mean for EA game releases?
This is just a rumor, but Microsoft has been making a few inside moves to bolster the video game business.
We will see what happens over the next few months.
