One of the members of the Lucasfilm Story Group has suggested about more Star Wars Legends characters soon re-entering canon. Almost four years ago, it was announced that the complete Star Wars’ Expanded Universe was being rebranded as Legends. The announcement came almost a year and a half after Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm in late 2012, and it allowed the new trilogy to start afresh. The development meant that everything beyond the first six movies and Star Wars: The Clone Wars wasn’t canon anymore. (A solo Darth Maul comic story, which released shortly after the announcement also remained canon).
It was obvious that removing novels, video games, and other works accumulated over several decades, wasn’t a well-received decision. The EU had expanded the Star Wars canon much farther than the movies, detailing thousands of years of origin and various popular characters. To see all that suddenly get erased from the records antagonized a sizeable portion of the fanbase. Despite that, Lucasfilm Story Group, which takes decisions related to canon and generating fresh content, has repeatedly referred to Legends over the last few years to find new ideas. Prominent of them all, Grand Admiral Thrawn, who was first seen in the 1991 novel Heir to the Empire, was brought back to the canon via a lead role in the season three of Star Wars Rebels.
Now the director Ron Howard has verified that Tag and Bing (two lesser known EU characters) will be seen in Solo: A Star Wars Story, fans are wondering which Legends characters will come back to the canon next. A Twitter user contacted Lucasfilm Story Group member Leland Chee to find out. Have a look at Chee’s great response below.
This is a huge development for the loyal Star Wars fans who were keen to get more of Legends characters into the new canon. We don’t know who Chee is talking about, but, considering the feedback received on Twitter and Reddit, if it is anyone from Darth Revan, Prince Xizor, or any of the Knights of the Old Republic, it will be huge.
