One terminally ill Star Wars fan’s last wish came true when he attended a special screening of Star Wars: The Last Jedi, barely months before his death.
Ron Villemaire was an Air Force veteran, and he passed away on Monday at the age of 69 after losing his battle against stage four colon cancer. Villemaire had watched the film during a private screening when the local firefighters helped him travel to a local theatre.
Villemaire’s wish came true after his daughter Elizabeth Ngo launched a social media campaign to seek support for her father’s wish of seeing the film. Ngo had earlier purchased the movie tickets, but, soon she realized that her father might not make it out of the hospital in time due to his rising pain.
Ngo used the hashtag #RonsLastJedi, and it grabbed the attention of local firefighters, who escorted Villemaire to a special screening of the movie, where he was welcomed warmly by people wearing the costumes of some of his favoriteStar Wars characters.
A local theatre, O’Neil’s Cinemas donated screen time to Villemaire and family.
Ngo shared on Monday that her father had passed away.
“This evening at 7:27 pm my amazing father and best friend took his last journey home to heaven. I know he will be with my grandparents and safe with God. I’m thankful he is no longer in horrible pain. Thank you for all of your prayers,” she tweeted.
