The mockumentary, What We Do In the Shadows, is now headed to TV with its pilot production set at FX. The discussions around a series from Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi have been going on for a pretty long time. It seems like the comedy around a team of vampire roommates is now coming to the TV on a channel that has built a reputation for creator-driven and smart content.
This is an offshoot of the 2015 movie and not a lot is known about regarding the pilot’s plot. We now know that Waititi and Clement are executive producers and a director and writer. This series is set to be a half an hour comedy, and its stars the IT Crowd, Matt Berry and Kayvan Novak, Harvey Guillen and writer, Natasia Demetriou.
The news of this pilot had come from Variety and according to a report from Fandango, this series’ setting will make a move from New Zealand to America. There has been not a word on if there will be new characters. This move to a new setting means that this show will now introduce a few new vampires. When we consider how closely this series will work with Clement and Waititi, they can reprise their roles as Vladislav and Viago.
This news is exciting for fans the of the original movie and it promises to take the viewers back to the supernatural world of werewolves and vampires. With Waititi’s directorial success with Thor: Ragnarok, it is highly unlikely that he will return to a feature-length ‘What We Do In the Shadows’ sequel.
This set up at FX makes good sense considering Clement’s relationship with the network because of his role on Noah Hawley’s Legion as Oliver Bird.
With him and Waititi it looks like a big hit for the network and a very exciting way to keep this property going.
