We have all seen John Cena take up larger-than-life roles, but this one is simply out of this world. Hollywood Reporter had posted that this WWE superstar is in negotiations to star in Duke Nukem. This project had been set up via Dimension Films and is now handled by Paramount. Platinum Dunes, run by Michael Bay with Brad Fuller and Andrew Form will be producing this movie.
This film is in its early stage of development, and there is no writer or director for this project. Nukem had made a pretty big name for himself in gaming. It was the first-person shooter Duke Nukem 3D that found his footing, having lines like asking strippers to “shake it, baby!”. 2K Games had tried to bring him back in a huge way with Duke Nukem Forever, but this game did not fare that well. Nukem has remained a pretty relevant name in the gaming field due to his guest appearance in Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition.
John Cena has appeared in many movies: Daddy’s Home 2 and he will appear in Transformers spinoff Bumblebee. It is not known when he will set aside time to start filming the Duke Nukem, but the movie may be set for a 2019 or 2020 release.
He is a pretty interesting fit, but the question remains if people really want to see him in this role. It will be an “R” rated movie as a “PG-13” rated movie will not do justice to Duke Nukem.
