Bright has recently become the most-viewed titles of Netflix since its release.
“In its first month, Bright has become one of our most-viewed original titles ever,” Reed Hasting, Netflix Chief Executive said.
“We’re thrilled with this performance and are planning a sequel as well as additional investment in original films.”
Netflix added 8.3 million subscribers in this quarter and had seen a 33% increase in its revenue. This growth is due to Stranger Things, Black Mirror and The Punisher. In 2017, Netflix had said that it will spend $8 billion on the content this year.
Bright takes place in a universe where magical creatures like orcs, elves, and fairies live with humans in Los Angeles. Daryl Ward (Will Smith) winds up with the first orc cop, Nick Jakoby. Smith, along with David Ayer, is now set to return for its sequel. Ayer will take over the script duties from Max Landis.
Unfortunately, the critical response to Bright has been pretty negative. This has 27% on Rotten Tomatoes, and some have called it the “worst movie of 2017.”
On Netflix now, Bright stars Will Smith, Noomi Rapace, Joel Edgerton, Edgar Ramirez, Ike Barinholtz and Lucy Fry.
