Selma Blair Voices Disappointment Over Del Toro’s Absence From ‘Hellboy’ Reboot

The Hellboy reboot is making progress. Selma Blair had played Hellboy’s love interest, Liz in the first two films and is heartbroken that Guillermo del Toro is not involved in this movie.

“God, you know, people are fans of Hellboy and also fans of Guillermo,” Blair said.

“So part of us, the ones that were so loyal to Guillermo, our hearts are broken that it didn’t work out with the greatest third installment ever written that I wish I could play more than anything in the world. But I truly hope that Mike Mignola has his vision out there for the darker Hellboy come to light, and I’m sure he will, and David Harbour is excellent and everyone involved, but no my heart is broken.”

Guillermo del Toro had lived Hellboy and made the films movies a passion more than jobs. The previous movies may not have resonated with all the audiences, but they developed some loyal followers.

Del Toro has bounced between genres, creating ghost stories and fairy tales. The movie that helped him earn notoriety was Pan’s Labyrinth. This success had allowed him to make any movie that he wanted.

The result was teaming up with Ron Perlman for Hellboy II: The Golden Army.

The news of this reboot was a surprise to fans. Perlman and del Toro had learned about the news at the same time as everyone else. They had voiced their disappointment:

“I don’t own Hellboy, Mike [Mignola] does,” del Toro explained said.

“So, you know, he is the father of the character and if he wants to reboot it, it’s perfectly fine. I got to make two – that’s two more than I thought I would get to make … So you know, as far as I’m concerned god speed and god bless.”

The Hellboy reboot will release on January 19, 2019.
