Jordan Peele has recently announced that he is “done” with his acting career and wants to focus on directing. ‘Get Out’ was a huge success for Peele and he wants to be behind the camera. This actor came into the limelight with Keegan Michael-Key on Key and Peele.
In a recent interview, Jordan Peele had compared himself to Daniel Day-Lewis (Phantom Thread).
Day-Lewis had announced that Phantom Thread would be his last acting outing. Peele had this to say.
“That’s the idea. Daniel Day-Lewis and I are both out (laughing). Acting is just nowhere near as fun for me as directing.”
While this reasoning is understandable, it left many fans wondering if they will ever the duo on screen together again. The actors have great onscreen chemistry. Quitting before the quality slid was a wise choice. This is not to say that Peele will not direct Keegan Michael-Key. Peele can come back to acting and this may happen at some point down. There had been rumors that he may play a main character in the Police Academy remake movie.
Get Out was a big surprise and earned more than $250 million worldwide and had a budget of $4.5 million. This movie gained nominations in the Golden Globes, Critic’s Choice and SAG and won a few awards as well.
Jordan Peele is a frontrunner for Best Director nomination at the Academy Awards. One cannot blame the actor for taking this decision. It will surely be very interesting to see what the future holds for Jordan Peele.
