There is bad news for the fans of Inhumans, as ABC seems to have done away with the series only after a single season.
Inhumans stars Iwan Rheon, Serinda Swan and Ken Leung. The series had a turbulent star. After its fascinating premiere in IMAX, the show from Marvel couldn’t garner the kind of critical or commercial acclaim that the shows such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. or Daredevil got. Having the honor of the first TV series ever to air in IMAX wasn’t enough to save the Inhumans from a globally disliked debut season. Apparently, its future was doomed right from the start, and now ABC might just have delivered the final blow.
Although nothing has been officially announced, but, Spoiler TV has reported that Inhumans has been removed from ABC website. In case you try to search for the show, the only thing that pops up is a bold error message. Not only that, Inhumans can’t be seen on any of the drop-down menus on ABC.
The Inhumans were first seen in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. However, the concept of the interstellar Royal Family was probably not compelling enough to drive a show on its own. This news is unlikely to surprise several people who had already expected Inhumans to shut down. It was quite a weird plan to air the initial episodes in theaters, and then the show was haunted by wig dramas and ratings that seemed to be in free-fall.
Cancelation rumors had been doing the rounds for some time, and S.H.I.E.L.D. actress Ming-Na Wen had apparently revealed the news about the cancellation, however, after Disney acquired Fox recently, there was no doubt left. Inhumans was pretty much a filler for the X-Men in Marvel Cinematic Universe, and now that Charles Xavier and his talented pupils are headed to Disney, the Inhumans are no longer required. ABC President Channing Dungey had also remarked that the show’s numbers were “less exciting” than what was hoped for. Thus, it was only obvious that Inhumans were to get scrapped or undergo a full-on overhaul.
However, the show might still linger on in some way, if ABC chooses to merge the characters back into S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 6. While the two shows haven’t been together so far, it would be logical for the Inhumans to work with Agent Coulson and team to become a part of a show which has a better standing among fans. Also, we shouldn’t already give up on Inhumans because the MCU is infamous for the various fan campaigns, and it might be possible that some other network or Netflix might come to the rescue of Season 2.
For now, we believe that ABC is going to rely on Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for its superhero doze. Let’s just wait and watch whether Inhumans returns on ABC, but, don’t pin your hopes on that.
