Last week, Twitter campaign had asked fans to make Joss Whedon know that she wants to star as Batgirl for Whedon’s movie. She is continuing this campaign and has tweeted an image of herself with the character.
The image does share a resemblance to the actress, it might be early for an actress to campaign for this role. Whedon was brought on by Warner Bros. and DC Films to make Batgirl, but this project had been put on hold.
Despite the rumors that Batgirl was not on the table, EW had reported that this project was going forward. Whedon had spoken about this script and the casting process.
“I’m creating this character,” Whedon said.
“I’m in a dialogue with her. We’ll see who joins that later on… I think this is somewhere you go and find Batgirl and then you cast her… I’m not against movie stars. They’re great, but you need somebody who’s going to be just right. And in a situation like this, the name carries a lot of weight.”
For people who are not familiar, while many characters have served as Batgirl, the most iconic version is Barbara Gordon. The red-haired girl is the daughter of James Gordon. She teams up with Robin and fights crime in spite of Batman’s objections.
But Joker shoots her and paralyzes her, in “The Killing Joke”. While it is not certain which story Whedon’s movie will focus upon, we know that Lohan is not the only actress who wants this role. Pitch Perfect star, Hailee Steinfeld had spoken to MTV International and said that if she had a chance, she would to play this role.
Batgirl does not have a release date as of now. Other upcoming DC Films are Aquaman, Shazam, Wonder Woman 2, Cyborg and Green Lantern Corps.
