Liam Neeson has recently expressed his interest to return to the Star Wars franchise as Qui-Gon in the solo Obi-Wan Kenobi movie. Ewan McGregor had been spotted looking similar to Obi-Wan and this which led to a lot of speculation about him being in this project. McGregor’s return may be the ‘make or break’ point for the fans. When he had been asked about returning as the character, the actor said that he had heard no news from Disney and Lucasfilm about the same.
Liam Neeson is promoting his movie, The Commuter, and he had been asked about his return as Qui-Gon Jinn. He said that he did not know that such a project was announced. This is a common thread that shows that Ewan McGregor has a pretty good poker face or the movie may have cast new actors for their roles. He had said that no one contacted him, but he also said that anything could be possible in Star Wars:
“This is the first time I’m hearing of this. No one’s been in touch with me. I know in the Star Wars world anything is possible.”
Obi-Wan’s mentor dies in the first prequel movie, and this means if Neeson returns, it will be as a Force Ghost. The actor explains:
“In the first one, The Phantom Menace, I died, but we know, you know, Jedi come back and stuff but no one’s been in touch. We’ll see.”
Ewan McGregor’s return might be what the solo Obi-Wan Kenobi film really needs. The spin-off is still far away from us, and its life and death depends on the success of Solo: A Star Wars Story.
