The Black Panther movie has been now projected to open to $120 million at the domestic box office. The first solo outing which features Chadwick Boseman’s character will release in February. Deadpool had released on February 12, 2016, to $132 million.
“Black Panther‘s initial presales blew past mid-range expectations earlier this week,” BoxOffice Pro says.
“While caution remains prudent as fans rush to grab tickets for the hotly anticipated Marvel film, the film’s current sales activity combined with a surge of social media momentum now has it tracking closer to our high-end expectations.”
Black Panther opening with $120 million will be impressive. Till now, only one standalone entry has exceeded $100 million and this was Spider-Man: Homecoming. Homecoming had the very same advantage that Black Panther is having- its hero was introduced in Captain America: Civil War.
Iron Man has topped $98 million in the movie’s first 3 days. The First Avenger and Thor’s first movie had earned $65 million in the opening weekends. Guardians of the Galaxy had earned in $94 million in the opening weekend and, Doctor Strange pulled in $85 million over its first weekend.
Black Panther has been directed by Ryan Coogler. The movie stars Chadwick Boseman, Andy Serkis, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong’o and Michael B. Jordan.
This movie will release on February 16, 2018. Avengers: Infinity War will release on May 4, 2018.
Other upcoming MCU movies are Ant-Man and the Wasp, Captain Marvel, Avengers 4, the sequel of Spider-Man: Homecoming, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.
