Black Panther seems to be already breaking all records and ticket sales are outpacing Captain America: Civil War. In Black Panther, fans will see Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa in the leading role and this will mark the first MCU movie where a person of color has the lead role. Ryan Coogler is helming the movie as its director.
The real buzz for this movie had picked up when the trailer had launched.
Erik Davis of Fandango had revealed that the movie has sold more advanced tickets in its first 24 hours than any MCU movie. We will get a more clear picture of what this may mean for Black Panther‘s potential at the box office.
Black Panther out-performing Civil War in its tickets pre-sale is a huge thing. Civil War broke Fandango’s record for its advanced ticket sales and if Black Panther kept up this pace, it might do so two years later. The tickets represent the interest from fans, so there is a lot of time for audiences to push Black Panther much higher.
Civil War had opened with $179M in the opening weekend and Black Panther coming close to this figure does not seem impossible. Not only can Black Panther become MCU’s largest launch but it may become February’s biggest hit ever. This record as of now belongs to Deadpool ($132M).
There is a lot of interest in Marvel Studios’ black superhero movie. The movie is releasing in Black History Month and it has garnered comparisons to Wonder Woman.
