Comics ‘Unite The Seven’ : Green Lantern Confirmed For The Justice League
Since the Justice League began production, the rumor mill has been buzzing with many claiming that the Green Lantern will make an appearance in the anticipated DC comics movie.
We may have had confirmation of his appearance thanks to a user who posted the Justice League soundtrack list to IMDb. Like Suicide Squad, this soundtrack seems to boast big-name artists, like The White Stripes, Skrillex, Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons. What got fans excited was the JusticeLeague song performed by Imagine Dragons, called “Unite The Seven.”
As fans know, “Unite The Seven” was a tagline DC used when it began promotion for Justice League. It was common knowledge that Green Lantern will join Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Cyborg and Aquaman as the 7th member of this league. In the comics, Green Lantern has been a member of the Justice League since the inception. In 2016, it had been implied that we will not get to see Green Lantern until the next Justice League movie or until Green Lantern Corps releases in 2020.
The promo campaign had focused on 5 League members after Superman’s “death” in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. Although it is clear that Superman will appear in Justice League, Green Lantern appearing will be a great surprise for the legions of fans.
It is worth mentioning that DC has been secretive about the roles in the past. Jason Momoa had to stay quiet about being cast as Aquaman for 5 years. This may be why DC changed the movie’s tagline from “Unite the Seven” to “Unite the League.” Since the 5 confirmed members of the Leagu had already been confirmed, the 7th member must be Hal Jordan.
There have been teases about Green Lantern appearing in DC’s project for months. In February, The Wrap’s Umberto Gonzalez had seemed certain that Green Lantern could may end up in Justice League. In the latest Justice League trailer, Steppenwolf had confirmed the existence of Lanterns:
“No protectors here. No Lanterns, no Kryptonian… This world will fall.”
A green light close to the mother ship and a spec of green in Alfred’s glasses had convinced fans that a Green Lantern will appear in the movie.
Who Will Be The Green Lantern?
There has been a frontrunner in the Green Lantern casting rumors: Henry Cavill’s The Man From U.N.C.L.E. co-star Armie Hammer. The actor had become interest to fans after he was followed on Twitter both by Geoff Johns and DCEU’s Deathstroke, Joe Manganiello. When an actor is followed on social media by Geoff Johns, he or she is confirmed as a member of DCEU.
This had been followed by Manganiello congratulating the actor:
Before inviting him and then inviting him over to his house:
The teases did not stop there. The Nocturnal Animals star answered a fan’s direct question:
Hammer had been cast in George Miller’s Justice League movie as Batman in 2007, so it is not as if he has no experience with superheroes. Hammer is familiar with wearing masks, as evident in The Lone Ranger. The actor fits the bill and is great with handling lighter and comedic moment.
It is important to note that the IMDb post has been taken down, and fans cannot be sure if Green Lantern will join the superheroes until Justice League hits theaters this November.
